FAMU History 3: The Free Sixties

Otakar Vávra and his FAMU class, profiled at the last year’s SFS, were not the only substantial players on the 1960s film scene. There were others, too, who studied film in upper or lower grades – Juraj Jakubisko, Elo Havetta or Dušan Hanák. One of the characteristic features of their films was a raw documentation of everyday life and rich imagination. Yet, their transition to mature, full-length cinema was slightly more complicated compared to the students from the early 1960s.
