FAMU History 4:
The Lost Generation

They started their studies at FAMU in the liberated late 1960s. At that time, Czechoslovak cinema had already entered its renaissance and was successfully represented at the biggest film festivals. However, their auspicious start was soon interrupted by August 1968 and the following events. Even though they were admitted to graduation they were not allowed to make movies. Hardly anyone passed the security clearance. That’s why we call them “The Lost Generation”. The fourth edition of FAMU History will focus on the Czechoslovak filmmakers, namely Angelika Hanauer, Vladimír Drha, Jaroslav Soukup or Agnieszka Holland, and their post-1968 careers. Plus Moris Issa and Vlastimil Venclík, who will attend the festival as guests.
